Well then. Shit sure just got real, didn’t it?
Personally, staying in and practicing social distancing isn’t that much of a stretch from how I normally live. But many folks, my hermit self included, are in the process of learning what it truly looks like when life is forced to shut down.
We at Over the Moon Studio had been planning to host our first anniversary party this Saturday, March 21 (we launched the space on the Vernal Equinox last March!). Of course now, in the interest of being cautious and conscientious, we have decided not to hold any gatherings until it is safe to do so. We were really looking forward to partying with you but we would much rather act with integrity and respect for those who are most at risk by following the recommended protocol of social distancing and self-isolating.
Along with the party, I was planning to do a tarot pop-up to celebrate the Vernal Equinox, happening this Thursday, March 19. That, too, is obviously a no-go. But since we cannot gather in person, I’ve decided to host my very first virtual pop-up!
Join me this Saturday, March 21st, for a Vernal Equinox Virtual Pop-Up!
Online 15-minute tarot sessions will be available via Zoom from 1-5pm. You don’t even have to wear pants!
AND! For the first time ever I’m super excited that I can work with folks who are outside the Iowa City area. You can be literally ANYWHERE and book a reading!
In an effort to make this offering more widely accessible, I’ve reduced my usual pop-up rate a bit from $20/15 minutes to $15/15 minutes. If a further reduction would serve to make this even more accessible to you please do not hesitate to reach out: firstname.lastname@example.org.
You can also gift a session to someone else. Email me at the address above for more info.
Due to the nature of this event, I ask that you use the button below to book in advance. I will send you the meeting link once your appointment is confirmed.
Be Mindful of What You Touch: An Elemental Meditation
I was inspired to write this meditation over the weekend as an opening mindfulness exercise for my Elements of Tarot workshop this past Sunday. I really liked how it came out so I decided to record it and make it available to a wider audience with the intention that be helpful or provide comfort or give you something to focus on besides the news or social media or whatever else might contribute to stress. At just over 4 minutes, the meditation is short, sweet, and full of love.
Supporting Your Local Healers & Witches: Ways You Can Help
The coronavirus is impacting the world in ways we couldn’t even imagine a month ago. It is absolutely not my intention to make it seem like I am suffering any more than anyone else. There are thousands, if not millions, of people who are in situations much more dire than mine.
But the truth is, my practice and business have already been disrupted by our current state of affairs. Like so many others in this current economy, I depend on events, parties, and gatherings as part of my income and unfortunately I’m experiencing cancellations that are causing my earnings to take a hit. I am a single person with no children and modest savings, and while I do have another part time job it generally only covers about 1/4 – 1/3 of my basic monthly living expenses.
It is my genuine intention that my work provides support, peace, and comfort to all. If you value what I do and/or want to support my work which, in turn, supports others, below are some suggestions of ways you help *if you are able.* Be sure to support other local businesses as well by buying gift cards and ordering online.
One thing I certainly want to do is offer a sliding scale option on all my services. I know we are *all* experiencing financial uncertainty so please reach out if I can make my work more accessible to you. We are all in this together. To that end, all of my offerings (except gift certificates) have the option to include a tip at checkout. Any & all tips included with payments for at least the next month will be donated to my local food bank.
Ways You Can Provide Support
1. You can book an online session with me.
I’ve moved all my readings to the virtual world. This means you can receive a reading from the comfort of your very own home via Skype or Zoom! (Email readings are also available.) And hey, one of my cats will most likely make an appearance so that’s an added bonus. Book a 30-minute or 60-minute tarot session with me here.
2. You can purchase a gift certificate for a friend, family member, or colleague.
Gift certificates are available in my shop for $10, $25, $50, & $75. You can also purchase a gift reading for someone else. Email me for details.
3. You can make a donation via PayPal or Venmo.
If you enjoy what I do but maybe don’t want to book a reading, you can donate a few bucks! I am not a nonprofit so donations are not tax deductible, but they ARE greatly appreciated and immensely helpful.
4. You can be on the lookout for more online offerings.
Thanks to a knowledgeable recent workshop attendee, I learned how I can record audio content and share it with y’all! This means creating online classes, webinars, meditations, and other audio offerings just got a whole lot easier. I also want to create more e-zines as well as turn my Elements of Tarot e-zine into an actual book, hopefully to have available for order very soon.
In addition, I’m also in the process of developing Patreon content that I hope to make available in the next few weeks. Patreon subscriptions will include things like: monthly readings (including new- and full-moon offerings), bonus written & audio content, and subscriber-only perks like discounts and special newsletters. Full details are still being worked out but I’m really looking forward to launching this offering.
5. You can help spread the word about Folkloracle.
Have you enjoyed a reading from me at a pop-up, at Over the Moon, at an event, party, or craft fair? Tell your friends! Tell your coworkers! Tell a stranger! (All from a safe distance only after washing your hands.) Seriously though, word of mouth is probably THE best and most helpful way to let others know I’m out there. You can also share my posts on Instagram and like/share my page on Facebook (though tbh I’ve been trying to avoid that particular platform lately as much as possible and don’t blame you if you are doing the same). Tarot readings can be healing and enlightening, and they can also be fun and entertaining. And I think we can all use a little of that right now.
I want to also give a shout out to my wonderful plant witch pals Kelly & Katie of Herbarcana, who’ve created an all-natural hand sanitizer and protective salve made with antiviral essential oils (it smells real good, y’all) as well as an echinacea tincture & tea for immune support. Shop hours are limited due to social distancing, but local delivery is available, as are sliding scale and bulk discounts. Follow their Instagram feed for more info on their goodies.
We will get through this, friends.
Stay strong, stay sane, and stay home. Look out for each other. Be excellent to each other. Go for a hike. Look at the stars. Watch birds. Work in your yard. Make some art. Read a book. Write a letter. Take a bath. I’m a little sick of saying it by now and I’m sure you’re sick of hearing it, but wash your hands. Now wash them again!
