A while back someone said to me: “I want to be a tarot reader but I don’t have all the cards memorized.” This got me thinking about the idea of learning something vs. simply memorizing information.
Memorization feels distant and sterile; it sounds like a task. Learning, on the other hand, is more intimate, more interactive, more fun. It demands engagement and experience.
This course will provide a framework to make engaging with tarot more approachable, breaking tarot down to its very elements so that we may gain a better understanding of it as a whole. I believe it to be beneficial for all skill levels from tarot newbies to seasoned readers.
In this course we will:
- Discuss the basics of tarot: what tarot is, what it is not, and how it can be used
- Demystify popular myths & misconceptions about tarot
- Deep dive into the archetypal energies of the Major Arcana
- Look into the numerological and elemental structure of the Minor Arcana
- Unpack the Court Cards
- Decipher commonly occurring symbols in tarot
- Discuss intuition, how to apply it to tarot, and how to distinguish it from anxiety
- Attempt to divest from the historically patriarchal and hierarchical structure of tarot
- Learn to do straightforward intuitive readings for yourself & your crew
- Have lots of fun, learn cool stuff, meet rad people and make new friends
This is the fourth iteration of this class since I developed and co-taught the first version of it in 2019. Since then I have added and expanded content and really honed in on what my goal is as an instructor, which is this: I want students to walk away from this course with the ability to pick up any tarot deck and be able to do a reading with it based on understanding the archetypes, numerology, symbolism, and elemental energies present in all (most) tarot* decks.
*Please note: the content of this course is based on the Smith-Rider-Waite (SRW) system of tarot.
Financial exchange for this four-week course, which includes weekly PDF downloads with the juiciest tarot info written by me, is $111.
Class size is limited to 8 students.
I am offering a sliding scale payment option for up to 3 students based on ability to pay. Please inquire for more information (folkloracle @ gmail).
